Jammu: At least four passengers died and 20 others were injured when a bus en route to Jammu plummeted in fumes near the Katra area in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said. Katra is the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Confirming the deaths, ADG interacting with the media said that the initial probe didn’t point out the use of any explosives. A forensic team is looking into the cause of the fire.

The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone in a statement said, “Bus no JK14/1831 on way from Katra to Jammu caught fire about 1 km from Katra. Probable cause is being ascertained. FSL team deputed on spot. Details will follow.”

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in a statement issued by his office said, “Extremely pained by the loss of lives in the tragic bus incident in Katra. I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. Directed district administration to ensure best possible treatment to the injured.”
