New Delhi: India has registered 3,275 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, and over 82% of the new infections have been reported from five states. The total active caseload in India has increased to 4,30,91,393. The top five states which have registered the freshest cases in 24 hours are Delhi with 1,354 cases, followed by Haryana with 571 cases, Kerala with 386 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 198 cases and Maharashtra with 188 cases. Of the 3,275 new cases, 82.36% were reported from these five states, with Delhi alone responsible for 41.34% of the new infections.

As many as 55 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total reported death count to 5,23,975. India’s active caseload stands at 19,719. In the last 24 hours, active cases have increased by 210. A total of 3,010 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 4,25,47,699 across the country. India’s recovery rate now stands at 98.74%. India has administered a total of 13,98,710 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,89,63,30,362.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 3,27,327 samples have been tested. Recently, a Covid-19 cluster was identified at The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) in Patiala, Punjab. After 60 students tested positive for Covid-19 at the university, it was declared a containment zone and students with mild symptoms were kept in isolation in separate blocks. University authorities have been instructed to vacate the hostels by May 10th to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection.
