It was 16th March 2012, when legendary cricket Sachin Tendulkar scripted history becoming the only batsman to score 100th international century. A decade old, however, the Tendulkar fans still cherish the moment.
Well, it was not just a century of centuries, the swashbuckler also hit his 49th ODI century and 100th overall in international cricket in his first against Bangladesh.
At the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, the right-hander achieved this remarkable feat of 100 ODI centuries by smashing 114 runs off 147 balls at a strike rate of 77.55, which included 12 boundaries and one six. The Master Blaster reached his century in style, raised his bat and helmet to the sky as thousands present in the stadium applauded his greatness. However, his century went all in vain as men in blue lost to the hosts by five wickets.
Tendulkar scored his 99th international ton against South Africa, in the 2011 World Cup. He went on to retire from ODI cricket in December 2012, scoring 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs played and Tests and International formats in November 2013. The legendary record still lives as no cricketer has yet reached the landmark. Australian captain Ricky Ponting edges close with 71 centuries while Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has scored 70 international centuries to date.
