Dantewada, Raipur: A 25-year-old Naxal, allegedly involved in killing three villagers in separate incidents in the state, surrendered to the police in the Dantewada district on Sunday, a police official informed.

The Naxal identified as Manglu Poyam is reported to have carried out three murders functioning as an active militia member of the Indravati area committee of the Maoists. According to the police, he killed three villagers in 2014-15, 2016and 2019, in Bijapur district suspecting them to be police informers.  

SP of Police Siddarth Tiwari said that Poyam cited disillusionment with the ‘hollow’ and ‘inhuman’ Maoist ideology as the reason for his surrender. Payam will be sent for rehabilitation under the state govt policy’s, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday this week, ten Naxals, including two carrying cash rewards on their heads, surrendered in Dantewada and Sukma districts in Chhattisgarh. Three ultras were identified as DAKMS president Dasrath alias Kotulu Mandvi (29), Mangdu Nuppo (27), both of who carry a bounty of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads, and Motu Kuhdami (24), surrendered.

So far 515 Naxals including 127 carrying bounty surrendered, quitting the communalist party. The Naxals admit to have been impressed by the ‘Lon Varratu’ (homecoming in the local Gondi dialect) initiative of the Dantewada police launched in 2020 to bring the Maoists to normal life.
