The All-India Chess Federation roped in world chess Champion Viswanathan Anand as a mentor of the Indian players. The AICF aims to clinch the title at the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China where the sport will make a comeback after a hiatus of 12 years.
The matches of which are scheduled between September 10 to 25 this year. In a press release, the AICF said,” Eyeing the four gold medals at stake in the games, the legendary Grandmaster Anand took a different role and will mentor the team and the first session between him and the players will kick start next Thursday.”
The Federation is hoping to improve and weigh its stance better compared to 2010 when India secured two bronze medals. This year a team of ten men and women would be representing India. The players are selected on their international rating.
The event will be held in two formats. The individual for both men and women will be played in Rapid time control from September 11 to 14 while four board five-member team event will be played under Standard time control from September 16 to 24.
