Raipur: Acting on instructions of the Chief Minister, Korba SP Bhojaram Patel constituted a team to bust illicit sand minning in the state. Nearly 8 tractors ferrying illegally mined sand were confiscated by officials from different police stations across the district.

The preliminary investigation has led to the arrest of Krishna Kumar Patel, resident of Rokda village of Urga area, Radhe Lal resident of Pandripani, Paramatma Patel of Jogipali police station area, Ravi of Kapatguda Imlichapar and Avinash Kewat Kapatguda.

In a stern warning on Friday morning, CM Baghel had announced to end illegal sand mining in the state. He had stated that action would be taken against collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) if they fail to curb illegal sand mining in their respective districts. Directing precisely towards the sand mafias he said that cases should be lodged and vehicles used in the unauthorized activities should be seized.

“Taking serious cognisance of the reports of illegal mining and transportation of sand by mafias, Baghel has directed the officials to take stern measures in this regard,” an official statement said. Citing the loss caused to the state exchequer due to illegal mining Baghel further directed senior officials of the mineral department to take stern measures in this regard.
