New Delhi: India recorded 21,05,611 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported.


The recovery rate at 93.60 per cent accounted for 3,47,443 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,80,24,771. The daily positivity rate stood at 15.52 per cent.


The active caseload stands at 21,05,611 accounting for 5.18 per cent of the total number of cases. 96,861 active cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.21 per cent reported 627 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,92,327.

The Union Home Ministry on Thursday extended the existing COVID-19 restrictions till February 28 in view of the Omnicron driven wave of infections. The ministry said that although a majority of patients are recovering fast and the hospitalization rate is low, the active cases have increased to 22 lakh. In lieu of this, Health Minister Mansukh Malviya will chair a high-level meeting to review the COVID situation in 8 states. The health ministers of southern states and Union territories shall attend the meeting today at 2:30 PM.
