New Delhi: With the rising threat of Omicron, the Election Commission has decided to hold a dialogue with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Monday.

This meeting stems from the swift Omicron spread according to which the poll body would chart its strategies in Uttar Pradesh and four other states due to hold elections in February-March.This visit is scheduled a day before the commission’s Dec 28-30 visit to UP.

Confirming their visit, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on Friday said, “I will be visiting UP next week. An appropriate decision as required by the situation will be taken after we review it.”Earlier, the Allahbad Court had suggested EC to defer elections in Feb-March. It also urged PM Modi to ban poll related gatherings. “If rallies are not stopped, results will be worse than the second wave,” the court pressed.

Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu witnessed a worrying spike in COVID-19 cases earlier this year after immaculate mob attended election rallies led by the Prime Minister and opposition leaders.
