New Delhi: India recorded 5,326 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.40 per cent accounted for 8,043 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 34195060.
The number of active cases stood at 79,097, the lowest in 572 days accounting for 0.23 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 3170 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.38 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 453 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,78,007.
With the staggering rise in Omicron count the centre has laid down its strategy to fight back the surge. So far, 165 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in 12 states across the country. Maharashtra accounts for 54 of the confirmed cases of Omicron variant, followed by Delhi with 32, Telangana with 20, Rajasthan with 17, Gujarat with 13, Kerala with 11, Karnataka with eight, Uttar Pradesh with two and Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Chandigarh with one each.
Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed Rajya Sabha on Monday about the buffer stock of medicine and oxygen prepared to mitigate the crises. He further inform that 48,000 ventilators have been distributed to states. Meanwhile, the vaccine manufacturing units would expedite their production.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 138.34 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, including 64.56 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours. Out of the total population, 88 per cent of the eligible candidates have been given the first dose and 58 per cent second dose.
