Mumbai: Unseasonal rains returned to Mumbai on Tuesday after a brief pause. Heavy rains are expected in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar on Wednesday, causing a yellow alert. Coastal locations such as South Mumbai and the western suburbs, according to reports, would receive more rain than interior areas such as Thane and Kalyan. A low pressure region is expected to form over the East Central Arabian Sea off the coast of Maharashtra around December 1, according to the IMD report. On Wednesday and Thursday, rain with thunderstorms and lightning is predicted for Gujarat, north central Maharashtra, and the north Konkan area.
The IMD tweeted on Tuesday, “A low pressure area is likely to form over the East Central Arabian sea off Maharashtra coast during next 24 hours. A Western Disturbance lies as a trough in mid and upper tropospheric westerlies roughly along Long. 58 degree E to the north of Lat. 15 degree N. Under the influence of these systems: Fairly widespread/widespread rain/thunderstorm with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Gujarat Region, north Madhya Maharashtra and north Konkan on December 1 and isolated heavy rainfall over Gujarat Region and north Madhya Maharashtra on December 2.”
