Thane: According to reports, former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh appeared before the Thane Nagar police on Friday morning in connection with an extortion case filed against him there. The Thane police commissioner has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to look into Singh’s case. Currently, the matter is being probed by a DCP level officer.
The Thane Nagar police had filed an extortion case against ex-Mumbai top officer Param Bir Singh, encounter expert Pradeep Sharma, criminal Ravi Pujari, and 25 others in the last week of July 2021. Retired Assistant Police Commissioner Shamsher Khan Pathan claimed that former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh confiscated 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab’s phone and “destroyed” it. Singh appeared before Mumbai’s Crime Branch on Thursday in connection with an extortion complaint filed against him. He arrived for interrogation around 7:45 a.m., according to a senior police official from Thane commissionerate.
Mr Singh had previously been subjected to a non-bailable warrant issued by a Thane court. R J Tambe, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thane, on October 26, 2021.
Param Bir Singh, of house number 133, Sector 27, Chandigarh, is charged with violating sections 384, 386, 387, 389, 392, 324, 323, 506, 506 (2), 166, 109, 120b of the Indian Penal Code, as well as parts of the Arms Act, according to the warrant. The warrant further stated that the accused be apprehended and brought before the court.
