New Delhi: After India’s loss to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021, the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell arrested a man from Hyderabad for making online rape threats against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s daughter. Ramnagesh Alibathini is the accused’s name, and he was apprehended in Hyderabad. Ramnagesh, 23, is a software engineer who previously worked for a meal delivery business.

Following India’s T20 World Cup loss to Pakistan, top paceman Mohammed Shami received online criticism. “To me, assaulting someone over religion is the most, I would say, sad thing that one can do,” skipper Virat Kohli said after extending his support to Shami and calling out religious prejudice. Everyone has the right to share their thoughts and feelings regarding a given scenario. I’ve never considered discriminating against somebody because of their religion, which is a very precious and personal matter to every human being.”

Virat and Anushka Sharma’s nine-month-old daughter was threatened with rape by the now-defunct Twitter account @Criccrazyygirl. Previously, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had taken suo-moto notice of reports of Virat Kohli’s daughter, Vamika Kohli, receiving online rape threats. According to sources, DCW had requested a copy of the First Information Report (FIR), information of the accused identified and apprehended, and a thorough action taken report by November 8th, 2021 from the Deputy Commissioner of Police. DCW had issued a warning to the Delhi Police, describing the online mocking of Virat Kohli and his family as a “serious concern” that needed to be addressed “immediately.”
