Uttarkhand: Heavy rains pounded various parts of north India on Monday, including Uttarakhand, where 5 persons, including 3 Nepalese labourers, were killed in rain-related accidents. The injured were sent to the Kotdwar base hospital, according to District Magistrate Vijay Kumar Jogdande. Meanwhile, the water level in the Nainital lake is overflowing for more than 40 hours, leading to flooded streets of the famous tourist spot.

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, paid a visit to the state disaster control centre at the secretariat in Dehradun to get meteorological reports and learn about the state of the roads and highways. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today morning to assess the situation in the state, which has been severely impacted by heavy rains. According to official sources, Modi also spoke with Union minister Ajay Bhatt, who is from the state.

Chardham pilgrims have been told not to visit the Himalayan temples till the weather improves. 2 persons were killed in Selkhola, Champawat district, when their house collapsed due to a landslide, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre. The Chandrabhaga Bridge, Tapovan, Lakshman Jhoola, and Muni-ki-Reti Bhadrakali barriers in Rishikesh are all closed for passenger vehicles. Besides, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana were also hit by heavy rains.
