Chhattisgarh: Amidst the torrential rains in Chhattisgarh, a state of the flood-like situation was alerted in several districts. State administration reports the filling of dams beyond the safe level. Several roads were closed and low lying areas were vacated as the dams released water which flooded the adjacent zones. However, the Met Department today stated a relief from the heavy rains forecasting light to moderate rains in some parts of Sarguja and Bilaspur Divisions.

Districts like Pali, Podi Uporda and upper areas of Korba have witnessed significant damage, sources reported. On Wednesday morning, the gates of the Hasedo Barrage were opened to release water as the rains crossed the safe level of 12 feet. As per the current water levels, the Bango barrage authorities would also open the doors today.

Villages in the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district have lost all telecom connections for 60 hours now. Rivers like Arpa, Son, Tipan, Alan, Bamhani, Jawas, Malaniya, along the Ganges bank and the Barsati River are all in spate and have reportedly flooded the nearby areas.

Sources report deployment of SDRF teams in Abhanpur that flooded due to Mahanadi.   As per the reports submitted by the collectors, on September 13, nearly 144 houses were damaged in the capital and 80 families were evacuated from the Var Para area of Gobra-Nwapara. Evacuees from Var Para and Ward 16 have been shifted to the rehab centre built in Somwari Bazar and Krishi Upaj Mandi in Nawapara, sources informed.  The Met Department has raised an alert to villages in Raigad. On September 17, Sarguja, Balrampur, Surajpur, Raigad, Korba, Janjgir- Champa are speculated to receive light to moderate rainfall, it added.
