Chhattisgarh: After wreaking havoc in parts of Orissa for the past two days and claiming several lives, the deep depression caused incessant rainfall in several districts of Chhattisgarh for a couple of days now. The Indian Meteorological Department took to its Twitter account to inform the current status of the depression. The tweet read- “Depression over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining East MP weakened into a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood at 0530 hrs IST of today. To move west-northwest wards across North MP and weaken gradually.”
Capital Raipur and Gariaband witnessed heavy rainfall that alerted the authorities to deal with a flood-like situation. Officials from the Pendra district reported a spate of the Son river which led to the loss of contact between district Korba and Kotmi.
Nearly 12 villages of the Gaurela block are out of connection reported a district official. River Mahanadi in Shivrinarayan of Jangir-Champa district and Arpa river in Bilaspur have been reportedly staged a spate increasing the chances of flood in the regions. SDRF teams have been activated to engage in rescue operations in low lying areas of the state.
Collectors of Raipur, Dhamtari, Gariaband and Mahasamund districts, which have witnessed heavy rainfall since Monday, have been directed to monitor the situation, take precautions and submit reports on rain-induced losses, state Revenue and Disaster Management department secretary Rita Shandilya. An official also reports a landslide at NH-30 Marka Tola Ghat of Charama in the Kanker district. However, no loss of life was reported from the incident. Narayanpur-Orchha roads have also been closed by informed sources.
