Tokyo: Shuttler Krishna Nagar on the last day of India dint settle for less, grabbing gold he brought the nation its 5th glitterati moment. Nagar defeated Hong Kong’s Zhu Wenkai 21-17, 16-21, 21-17, becoming the second Indian shuttler to clinch a gold medal after Pramod Bhagat, and the fifth athlete to receive the award for India at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
After defeating Christine Combs of England in the semifinals, the second-seeded Indian entered the final as a favourite. However, Krishna Nagar did not succeed in the final against Hong Kong opponents. He started with his foot in the first game, but Chu Mankai took the lead, and the Hong Kong Traveller entered the midfield with a narrow advantage.
Nagar made too many mistakes, and Chumankai quickly opened up the 16-11 lead, but the Indian counterattacked strongly and scored 15-16 points, only one point behind. Nagar only lost one more point when he fell behind by 15-17 in the first game. After that, he scored 6 consecutive points to shock his opponent and won the first game in 21-17.
