The Indian meteorological department on Monday predicted that several districts of Madhya Pradesh are going to receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The districts that fall under the shahdol and Jabalpur divisions are expected to be highly affected. Apart from these two, there is a possibility of a heavy downpour in other districts too that include Bhopal, Vidisha, Chhindwara, Sagar, Betul, and Balaghat.

Though it will come as a respite to those regions that have been suffering from extreme heat and less rainfall for the past few weeks, it can be dangerous for areas that have already received high to moderate rainfall during the monsoons.

An official of the Indian meteorological department said, “A low-pressure area continues to remain in the Bay of Bengal causing rainfall in many areas of the state. The trough line of the monsoon is also passing through Gwalior, Rewa, and Satna. These two conditions have advanced the monsoon-related activities in the state”.

On Sunday, some areas of the state received moderate rainfall already. Bhopal alone recorded 21 mm of rainfall that lasted for 8 hours straight. The heavy rainfall that is expected to set in within the next 24 hours may last up to 3 days as predicted by the IMD.
