India sees a rise in covid positive cases for the 3rd consecutive day. It crossed the 40,000 mark with a total positive report of 46,759 in the last 24 hours. Kerala, being one of the worst affected states, bears the brunt of having more than half the active caseload alone. Maharashtra stands at position two with 16 percent of the total active caseload. But the good news is that India has also registered 31,374 recoveries in the last 24 hours with only 509 deaths. With these numbers, the total covid positive cases of the country stand at 32,649,130 with a death toll of 4,27,403 people.

Kerala has been affected with the worst numbers in the second wave and it still continues to suffer. Rajesh Bhushan, the union health secretary has asked both Kerala and Maharashtra govt to continue night curfews in worst-affected areas. Kerala lodged 32,801 covid positive cases on Friday, slightly higher than the Thursday numbers. The active caseload of the country now stands at 359,775 which is 1.06 percent of the total covid positive cases.

Amid such scary hints of another wave hitting us soon, there is relief in the news of the rate of the vaccination process that is being carried out across the country. On a record high, India vaccinated more than 10 million people on Friday alone. PM Modi himself tweeted about this and wrote, “Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success”. Apart from the vaccination procedure, as many as 17,61,110  covid tests have also been carried out on Friday. The total fatality rate from the virus stands at 1.34 percent; positive news even when the daily covid cases cross the 40,000 mark.
