The Tokyo Paralympics matches officially began on Wednesday after the opening ceremony took place on Tuesday. The Indian contingent has been playing in the game with 54 participants who will take part in 9 different sports during the Paralympics tournament. This is the largest Paralympics contingent that India has sent to the game to date.
In a recent interview, the Paralympics Committee of India (PCI) has said that they have chosen Satyanarayana as the new coach for the Indian para-athletes. “We are glad to inform you that Satyanarayana has been nominated by the Paralympic Committee of India and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, to represent India as a Para Athletics Coach at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games held at Tokyo, Japan from August 24 to September 5”, said PCI in the official statement.
As far as the progress of the Indian para-athletes is concerned, paddler Sonalben Manubhai Patel faced a close defeat in her opening match in women’s group D singles against her Chinese opponent Qian Li. The match took place earlier on Wednesday in the Tokyo metropolitan gymnasium.
At the same time, another para table tennis player from India Bhavinaben Hasmukhbhai Patel also lost to her Chinese opponent in her maiden game in group A women’s singles match. Leaving behind these heartbreaks let’s hope for some good news as the javelin throwers and shooters prepare for their matches next.
