Chhattisgarh: Addressing the citizens through his All-India Radio Show Lokvani, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday expressed containment over the progress of the state’s agricultural sector. 

Under his governance, the state administration had launched the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Yojana on May 21, 2020 marking the legendary leaders’ death anniversary . Under the scheme, 19 lakh farmers were  aided with Rs 5700 Crore as Rs 1500 crore per instalment.

Marking the success of the scheme, CM Baghel re-activated the scheme with the similar criteria to support the farmers amidst the resurgence. Expressing ecstasy the Chief Minister said, “the government’s farmer-friendly initiatives made people invest more in agriculture. The state’s farmer population has increased by  550,000 in the last two years.”  

Nearly, 20,53,482 farmers sold paddy and the remaining about 1.5 lakh farmers sold maize and sugarcane after the first instalment of the second phase of the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Yojana was transferred. Additionally, if a farmer replaces paddy with kodo-kutki, sugarcane, tur, maize, soybean, pulses, oilseeds, aromatic paddy, other fortified paddy or banana or if he plants papaya or does tree plantation, he is promised an input assistance of 10,000 rupees per acre. 

Lastly, he addressed the Chief Minister’s Plantation Promotion Scheme that was recently launched  to promote  development of agro-forestry and to boost the income of farmers citing the favourable climate and an equal ratio of  man power and land.
