New Delhi: India continued to record the declining trend, as 1.34 lakh cases were registered in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said this morning. So far  2,84,40,988 Indians have contracted the virus since the outbreak.

The MoHFW reported 2,11,750 recuperations in a single day that took the total recuperations to  2,63,82,897. However, the mortality rate continued to observe a growing curve adding another 2,897 mortalities.

The number of active cases has reduced to 17,13,413, accounting for 6.02 per cent of the total number of cases, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 92.79 per cent. A net decline in active cases of 80,232 was recorded in the Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, the ministry said.

 Tamil Nadu and Kerala are now reporting more cases every day than Maharashtra, which has the highest overall case count. With over 25,317 cases Tamil Nadu surpasses Kerala with 19,661 infections. However,  the worst-hit  Maharashtra recorded 15,169 infections. 

 The Supreme Court on Wednesday made some sharp remarks on the centre’s vaccine plan as it called the policy of paid vaccination for those between 18 and 44 “arbitrary and irrational”. The apex court ordered the centre to file a detailed affidavit comprising complete data on the purchase history of all the vaccines to date – Covaxin, Covishield, and Sputnik V. It specifically demanded dates of all procurement orders; number of doses ordered; and projected date of supply have also been sought. 

 After Pfizer, now Serum Institute of India, the world’s biggest vaccine make, has sought protection from liability, sources have said “Not just Serum Institute of India (SII), all the vaccine companies should get indemnity protection against liabilities if foreign companies are granted it,” Serum sources said today.
