Vandan Rehabilitation and Research Institute in the Narmadapuram district city of Jabalpur is set for Diwali preparations as differently-abled children are engaged in creating and ornamenting earthen lamps. These lamps are not just for decorating; they are a symbol of the children’s work and their confidence and determination to be self-reliant. In the lead up to festival of lights, their efforts involve spreading a meaningful message through their work of hope and inclusion.

The enthusiasm among children doing work with clay and colours has come alive on the institute’s premises. Some are perfectly forming clay into beautiful lamps, while others are adorning the lamps with intricate designs and vibrant colours. As they create the lamps, they feel happy and confident, and they are happy to see the final product coming out of their hands.

While these children may be challenged, they are showing their creativity and skills in their efforts. Their commitment embodies the idea that restrictions created by physical conditions are not a definition of what can be accomplished or a bar to the hopes of an individual.

It isn’t an initiative for Diwali preparations. To promote the chances to empower differently abled kids to improve their skills of daily living, build confidence, and financial self-sustainability. Children are given a chance to experience the satisfaction of what they’ve created and its value of self-reliance through creating a product themselves.

The programme also conveys the message to the society that opportunities, encouragement and support can play an important part to an individual who is different physically to demonstrate his/her potential and become independent.

These lamps are hand-made and as they come into families’ homes, they will convey more than decorative life. Each lamp will symbolize the determination, effort and self-worth of the children who have made it.

This Diwali, buying their handicrafts can be one way to do so valuably and promote their road towards independence. Lighting the home is an important aspect of the festivity of Diwali but bringing hope, confidence and opportunities into people lives is what is really important, as it is in this initiative by the Vandan Rehabilitation and Research Institute.
