Election polling stations have started closing nationwide in key midterm elections likely to determine the partisan makeup of the nation’s capital. Democrats are vying to establish a new balance of power in the House of Representatives and, if they can, the Senate, which will be a big political hurdle for President Donald Trump.
With a Democratic win in the House, the Democrats Party could put limitations on Trump’s agenda, and conduct investigations of his administration. Controlling the Senate could also have a large impact on the president’s approval of Supreme Court nominees and other high-ranking officials.
All 435 House of Representatives members, 35 Senators and governorships in 36 states are on the balance.
High Stakes for Both Parties
Parents would have to win only three House seats and win a net of four Senate seats to control both houses of Congress.
The poll is being interpreted as a national enoughing of voters’ opinions about Trump’s presidency, and the Republicans are increasingly troubled by the cost of living as well as the continuing troubles in the Iran-Israel conflict.
Economic Concerns Dominate Campaign
Trump retook office last year with a pledge to cut costs, yet inflation, tariffs and rising fuel costs have kept putting a strain on the American pocketbook.
The president has been struggling at low approval levels, and it’s the issue Republican candidates are facing in all their endeavors.
The votes are currently being tallied up and could have a major impact on the influence and control Trump has in Washington throughout his term as president and on the politics moving forward to the next national election.
