The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been requested by Delhi Police to temporarily close the entrance/exit gates in 57 stations of the metro system ahead of the planned protests in the national capital based on concern about people moving toward sensitive areas.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport Range) Rajneesh Gupta in a letter sent on Thursday had asked the metro operator to close the doors of the identified railway stations between 9 pm on Friday and Saturday or till things return to regularity.

The CMN also recommended reducing the number of metro trains that pass through the affected stations, depending on the security situation. The proposed restrictions are asked to apply for 57 stations against more than 300 stations of Delhi Metro network.

The CJP is hailed as a youth movement belonging to the Gen-Z era that held a stone-pit assembly at Jantar Mantar last year on the eve of the allegedly flawed national entrance test to medical colleges. Reducing metro restrictions is a ploy to signal security measures being put in place before the demonstrations. To avoid any inconvenience, commuters should read the official DMRC’s advisory which includes confirmed closure of stations, entry/exit restrictions and possible change in services before commuting.
