The Madras High Court has allowed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to file a defamation case against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders Aadhav Arjuna and C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and TVK’s IT arm related to the R. Veeramani POCSO case.
Represented by its general secretary Duraimurugan, the DMK had demanded damages worth Rs 1.01 crore, pointing out that the TVK leadership’s comments and what the party’s IT department posted on social media were a part of speculations against the ruling party.
DMK Alleges Defamatory Claims Over Veeramani Case
The tussle is hinged on allegations of TVK leaders that the clean granite businessman R. Veeramani was shielded or acted negligently by the previous DMK government in the POCSO case.
The DMK has denied those charges. The petitioner in the petition argued that steps had been taken and there was no delay of any kind after a complaint had been filed against Veiramani in October 2025, and he had no reason to believe that it was done through any political agenda.
The party claimed the TVK leaders’ and IT wing’s statements and social media postings were biased, and thus caused damages to its reputation. It also called for action in regard to posts and videos that contained the allegations.
Court Allows Defamation Proceedings
Justice K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi heard the demands of the DMK for the court to allow proceedings to be initiated. The party has now been granted indulgence by the court to file the proposed defamatory suit against Aadhav Arjuna, C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and the TVK IT wing.
The order permits the DMK to go ahead with a damages claim of Rs 1.01 crore. Startling the court is permission to sue, and is not in itself proof of either defamatory or viable allegations by either party.
Veiramani Case is Ongoing Investigation
The defamation case is connected with the Comprehensive investigation on R. Veeramani arrested in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Veeramani and two alleged associates, Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan, have been arrested under the Goondas Act as well, reports said. Case has stirred up political wrangling between the DMK and TVK with leaders of the TVK saying that the then DMK administration covered up for Veeramani and the DMK had not accepted the allegation.
The court battle between the two didn’t move to the next step, with the DMK to file its defamation case in the Madras High Court.
