A protest will be staged again at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday, October 10, if the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar fails to resign, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced. CJP “party” chief Abhijeet Dipke announced on Friday night after the party staged a big protest at the Shivaji Park in Mumbai.

The proposed demonstration in Delhi will be peaceful and people who have taken the side of the Party to fight what it calls for free and fair elections, should join it, Dipke said.

CJP Announces ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’

The announcement was made in the wake of numbers of people protesting at the Shivaji Park against the permission denied by the police barring the gathering of hundreds. The protest was aimed at the CJP’s demand for Kumar’s resignation and its grievance against the Election Commission about electoral rolls.

During the protest, Dipke said that they would be building what he termed “Jantar Mantar 2.0” if the CEC didn’t resign. Previously, the CJP had called for a long protest during this year at the Jantar Mantar regarding issues connected with examinations.

CJP leaders have also raised concerns in respect of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls encountered irregularities. Protests and criticisms have been raised against the Election Commission over this issue and resignation of the CEC forms a part of main demands of the CJP’s campaign.

Party Challenges Electoral Roll

During the protest in Mumbai, CJP president Ajinkya Shinde had requested the voter lists for 2025 be frozen, and demanded changes to the 2023 election commissioners appointment rule.

Dipke also contended that the voter deletions had impacted the outcomes of the poll and opposed the BJP’s call for simultaneous elections. He said the idea can eventually evolve to “One Nation, One Election, One party.”

The following allegations and demands are political statements, not findings of the Commission or court.

‘Chalo Delhi’ Call After Mumbai Protest

If the CEC doesn’t resign, the CJP would organize supporters around the nation, Petsevich said. On October 10, he called for the next demonstration on the Jantar Mantar as a non-violent agitation and considered the month as a suitable time for it.

The announcement is yet another escalation in CJP’s clime on electoral-roll issues and the group has now started to uproar over the issue in Mumbai and now wants to drive it back to Delhi.
