The stand-off between Anand and party chief Mayawati within the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has once again come under spotlight following Akash Anand’s pledge to apologise to the party chief and leave his mark on the party by way of working under her leadership again.

The appeal by Akash, Mayawati’s nephew, refers to a post he shared on X, calling her his “political guru” and as his “inspiration”. “He has studied politics under her guidance and only wanted to once again serve the mission and the party,” he said.

He said that he would regain the trust based on his behavior and hard work instead of words,” Akash added. His message has also given rise to rumours that reconciliation may be possible with Mayawati, and the issue that perhaps now his party can more easily secure passage for the Ram Temple Bill in the Lok Sabha.

The BSP chief too supported Mayawati’s call on father-in-law Ashok Siddharth, a former Rajya Sabha member. He stated that the proper action of expelling Siddharth from the party and his retirement from politics were appropriate, as the interests of BSP and the movement should take the priority over personal and family relations.

Mayawati earlier in September ousted Akash from important positions in the party and later “has severed his tie with her completely.” She has said that he was being influenced by Siddharth and was urging to put interests of his family above and above BSP and political movement.

Akash also wanted to defuse rumours that hinted at his political future. He told reporters that he wouldn’t join any other political party now or in the future and all he has is BSP — his family.

He has said that he stayed away from social media and that’s why he didn’t repost one of Mayawati’s posts leading to “misunderstandings”. Then Akash apologized if there was any hurt by his silence.

The development is a result of the frequent reshuffle in the BSP where Akash replaced other officers. The latest happened after the numerous reshuffle in BSP and succeeded other officers in the body with Akash’s name. Prior to this, Mayawati had reinstated him after earlier expelling him and then promoted him to senior organisational roles.

In the meanwhile, Mayawati has carried out organisations changes ahead of the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, appointing Ishan Anand from her family of nephews as the national convener in September.

Now the spotlight is on Akash whether he will get Mayawati’s reply to his request for appointment as an organiser in BSP or he will return to organisational work.
