On his birth anniversary Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, late Union Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Chhattisgarh Sadan in New Delhi on Friday.
Vishnu Deo Sai presented floral tributes to the images of both the national leaders and remembered their contributions and ideals. 2nd October is the birth day of two great personalities of the country Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and in honour of them the day is celebrated throughout the country with many programmes.
Recalling Mahatma, Sai informed that his mission of truth, non-violence and humanity sent a message of peace and harmony to the world. Gandhi’s thoughts focused on the “last man” in society and conveyed the concept of self-reliance, he said.
Gandhi will always remind people to stay committed to the cause of truth and to discharge their duties towards the society and the nation, the chief minister said.
Sai also recalled Lal Bahadur Shastra, who was an inspiration for him because of his simplicity, confidence and the way he gave his service to the country. He quoted Shastri’s slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, which had been a message to celebrate the efforts made by soldiers and farmers towards the security and prosperity of the nation.
The life and principles of Gandhi and Shastri “still guide us in public welfare, good government and service to the nation,” the chief minister said.
Gandhiji’s observation of October 2 was marked by celebration of Gandhi Jayanti and Shastri Jayanti throughout India. Some public programs also were held for the purpose of remembrance of the two leaders and their contribution.
Sai’s tribute in New Delhi was one of the many events held on that day coinciding with the celebration of the 157th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 122nd birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri.
