Comedian Sunil Pal has taken a slam dunk at actor Salman Khan for his recent comments regarding celebrities getting trolled on social media. In a chat with the paparazzi at an event, Pal asked if there were any “problems” between Bollywood celebrities and their fans, and went off on a rant on Salman, the host of Bigg Boss.
Responding to Salman’s calls on popular stars being targeted online, Sunil Pal explained that these stars are so successful and influential because their audience supports them. Actors like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are now stars and it’s up to the public to like their movies, he said.
Pal also cited Hanuman Ansh’s achievements as opposed to the size of the budgets of other movies. He stated that a movie on a far lesser budget had grossed much higher compared to some movies on a higher budget and hauled down this criticism at the industry.
The comedian also spoke about Salman’s linkage with the Bigg Boss. Pal told the actor to cancel the reality show and termed it as a “gutter” show. He also claimed it gives exposure to individuals who would not otherwise get exposure like that, and helps to make him a celebrity.
Sunil Pal’s comments were made just after Salman Khan talked about trolling on the Internet in Bigg Boss 20 Weekend Ka Vaar. In the show segment, the actor referred to the comments of being called “budha” on social media and also answered questions regarding his balding look.
But, Pal’s remarks have thrown a new challenge into the debate on celebrity trolling, the viewers’ expectations for Bollywood and social media. Salman, however, has shared about celebrity criticism, whereas Pal has reacted by emphasising on a different aspect, the power of the audience to create and keep a star popular.
