Gautam Adani and the Adani family have once again moved to the top of the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2026 after Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family have been dethroned. The latest list showed the Adani family’s wealth grew 13 per cent to Rs 9.23 lakh crore while that of Ambani family fell 10 per cent to Rs 8.63 lakh crore.
Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and his family of ArcelorMittal occupied the third position with assets worth Rs 3.39 lakh crore, which increased by 93%. Hurun talked about the reasons for the increase, saying that European tariffs and stronger prices of steels are responsible for the growth. Mittal was ranked eight places higher than in the last edition.
Of these 1810, the 2026 list includes individuals who have wealth of Rs 1,000 crore or more. Their total wealth rose 12.8% YoY to Rs 187.5 lakh crore, which is equivalent to about $1.96 trillion. It also noted that there are 391 dollar billionaires in India, including 27 more.
The new list also pointed to alterations in where wealth is being created. There was a standalone artificial intelligence (AI) sector that saw 19 companies with a combined value of ₹3.07 lakh crore with 15 newcomers. It also cited growth opportunities in the aerospace and defence and green energy industries, industrial products, metals and mining, pharmaceuticals and financial services sectors.
The M3M Hurun India Rich List is based on the estimated wealth of individuals and families and serves as a marker of wealth creation in India’s business sector every year. In the 2026 edition, the proportion of affluent Indians is increasing as celebrated industry sectors are complemented by emerging ones like artificial intelligence and technology.
