Kawardha Medical College begins first academic session, Deputy CM Vijay Sharma welcomes first batch
The historic occasion of the first academic session and the first batch at Government Medical College Kawardha marked the start of medical education in Kabirdham district. Deputy Chief Minister, Kawardha MLA Vijay Sharma and MP Santosh Pandey attended the opening ceremony of the students.
The children rose to embark on a new chapter of their studies with an apron, stethoscope and pen and a bouquet of roses. They also shared because they have some experiences about their preparations, problems and dreams with visitors.
Talking to the students, Vijay Sharma congratulated them for having opted for Medicine and reminded students that being a doctor is not an ultimate aim. The students should strive to make a positive impact on society through their profession, he said.
Sharma also appealed on behalf of the students for retaining the spirit of service consciousness towards the families and the communities that helped them be educated. He urged them to be diligent in their studies, make a strong effort to achieve their objectives and not subject themselves to unnecessary stress. The achievement is not something that can be done by an individual but is made through a collective effort of families and others, he said.
Oasis Healthcare Managing Director Dr Rohankumar and the Principal Bipin Bhatia congratulated the first batch, saying it was made possible with the efforts of various stakeholders of the medical college. He spoke about the development of medical education and healthcare facilities in the country and Chhattisgarh.
The students were told that it was very good to have reached the medical college after 6 – 8 years of hard work but at the same time, they also had a new journey ahead of them, which will be either a great journey or an arduous journey according to the type of brain they have, said Collector Tulika Prajapati. She emphasized the need of being compassionate and serving patients, as physicians are expected to help cure patients from their ailments.
Deputy CM meets students
Sharma interacted with first batch students of the programme, and asked them about the ways they prepare themselves, how they study, their experience of coaching and how they go through the entrance examinations.
Students described their various strategies for preparing. Atithi Dewangan, who settles in Rajnandgaon, stated that she was able to do so on the second attempt and attributed it to her father for teaching her how to learn from their mistakes and keep going. Bhupendra Singh trained using online coaching as Akash Dhurve of Kawardha self studied in a library. Harshita who hails from Bilai village has been admitted for her third attempt.
At the end, students reported spending about 8 hours studying from books while another 3-4 hours with digital devices. Several reported using as much as 7-8 hours of screen time for online classes.
Several public, medical college authorities and doctors, such as the faculty of medical college and doctors like dr Pratibha Jain Shah and dr Devendra Ture CMHO, along with others, were present on the occasion.
