In a social media sparring that has been reignited into a defamation lawsuit, BJP spokesman Gaurav Bhatia has filed a defamation case against the leadership of the satirical political outfit Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) for an alleged offense of Rs 2 crore.
Bhatia gave a sneak peek of the court document on Tuesday and stated that this case would be scheduled for hearing before the Delhi High Court. The allegations against the document include: the document contains defamatory comments against the national convener of CJP, Abhijeet Dipke, and co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
“Tomorrow, all solid arguments will ring out in the court, “The coffin of lies is to be nailed shut with the final nail,” Bhatia wrote in a post with a cockroach emoji on X.
The BJP spokesperson, in another post, said the “test of truth” has to be done in the court of law. He emphasized the fact that the hearings would be non-social media, fact-driven, evidence-based, and law-based.
The litigation from Bhatia comes in a series of wars of “words” amongst Bhatia and CJP co-convener Saurav Das which had begun last week. What Das shared was a post in which she referred to right-wing personage Swatantra Bhardwaj as a ‘dimagi naxal’.
That’s a blatant fake,” Bhatia went on to say, and Das had 24 hours to delete the post and surrender an unconditional apology. Das later deleted the post, and admitted it had been created using artificial intelligence without apologizing.
Bhatia, after taking down the post, threatened to file an FIR if Das did not come to an apology.
After the news of the defamation case, Das seemed to take a jibe at Bhatia on his social media accounts, teasing him that he shouldn’t go to the wrong court in Greater Noida.
The social media problem has already blown up into this one now, as Bhatia has now sought legal help via the Delhi High Court. The evidence alleging and the responses are likely to be subjected to formal judicial proceedings (hearing) to be discussed in the upcoming hearing.
