Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been on a rough patch in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since they missed out on playoffs in last three seasons. Former batter who played for India, Sadagoppan Ramesh, has proposed that the bowlers club should look into letting Sanju Samson take the tasty helm of the team.
The opener of CSK Ruturaj Gaikwad was in hot waters after ending his IPL season with poor form in 2026. Samson from Rajasthan Royals further added to the doubts if CSK is going to make any changes at the top after his arrival.
In times past CSK have been considered a stable bunch, and do not make knee-jerk decisions frequently. Yet, Ramesh feels Samson could be a great leadership option for the franchise, as he has the necessary experience and quailifications.
It was an impressive performance that saw Samson bag Player of the Tournament award at the 2026 T20 World Cup when he joined CSK from the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2026 season. He was later left out of CSK’s straws to score the most runs in the 2026 IPL.
On his Instagram page, Ramesh also voiced his support for Samson for the role, giving emphasis to his aptitude as a team player.
“CSK are seemingly considering many options for the captaincy and even wondering whether a change is needed. I would like to consider the name of Sanju Samson as captain as he is such a brilliant team player,” Ramesh added.
He reiterated that CSK need to make a change in leadership if the management feels it is required adding that Samson should be strong contenders for the role.
The captaincy situation comes as another setback for the CSK franchise that’s keen to make a comeback after the second season, and it could be one of their key decisions for the upcoming league season.
