One of the most dreadful floods in decades in the Mandakini River were seen in Chitrakoot, which is seriously disrupting the regular life of the area. The river rose in a tremendous rate and flooded several residential areas as well as markets and critical roads, forcing the authorities to ramp up relief and rescue operations. On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav visited the place to make the assessment on ground as well. He conducted an inspection of the flood affected zones and went to relief camps to meet the affected population who had moved out of their home area due to the rising flood water.
The Chief Minster arrived at the Nagar Parishad building at the relief camp and also the TIC building, the location of the shelter set up by the Nagar Parishad. He met directly with affected families and heard their concerns, while bringing food and other relief items to them, and distribution of dry ration.
CM Mohan Yadav also held discussions with administrative officials and police officials and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams on the occasion. He instructed officials to make sure that every possible aid could be provided promptly to residents impacted.
In addition, the Mandakini River’s extreme flow adversely affected the infrastructure in Chitrakoot. The bridge was washed away and was one of the reasons reported, which was en route to the historic Hanuman Dhara. Several homes were also inundated, as well as marketplaces.
Then, there was some respite a few days later when rain had stopped and the water level of Mandakini started to slowly decrease. Authorities have continued to relocate residents who have been impacted to other facilities and providing food, medical and clean drinking water services.
The government and rescue teams continue to be on ground in affected areas, and are closely tracking the situation, while attempting to return to normalcy in the inundated part of the state.
