The effect of persistent heavy rains in the hilly areas is now evident at the Chitrakoot area where Mandakini river again has reached the dangerous level of the water. The river has entered spate as water has increased in its levels rapidly leaving remnant of flood like conditions in few places along its banks, for the fifth time this monsoon season.
In Chitrakoot, it has impacted some of the key religious and tourist sites. In some low-lying areas, water has flooded in, and boats reportedly are in use on some of the flooded roads. There has also been a significant issue of waterlogging in the Sati Anusuya pilgrimage area which has exacerbated concerns among the people and devotees.
As a precautionary step, authorities have not allowed any religious devotees or tourists into the famous Godavari site at Gupt. Water has overwhelmed several parts of the popular Ramghat, even reaching nearby shops and temples.
This quickly surging water level has put the locals and religious pilgrims in the town on their guard. There has been also some impact on normal movement within the locality in relatively proximity to the river.
Administration Issues Safety Advisory
The district administration has kept itself on its guard due to the prevailing conditions and is keeping a check on the situation in the flood prone areas and the water level at Mandakini River.
Authorities have asked the public, religious groups and visitors to avoid river perambals, roads, polders and other locations that are submerged in water. Individuals are also urged to not come near the river as the folks may likely encounter serious security issues because of the high current as well as the liquid level could rapidly change.
The situation is being closely monitored with necessary precautions being taken to forestall an untoward incident as rains continue in the upstream areas.
