Pakistan’ PTI approaches court after incomplete medical tests of Imran Khan; Files contempt against PM
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has filed the complaint against the Shahbaz Sharif government in Islamabad after authorities sent him to the state-run hospital deftying the Supreme Court order. It further condemned the Pakistan Institute Medical Sciences (PIMS) for failing to conduct a medical test recommended for the 73-year-old politician, despite the availability of a functional CT scanner on the premises, according to reports.
Legal advisor for PTI party, Naeem.Panjutha said, The petition seeks action against the prime minister, law minister, information minister, and other government officials.”
Central Secretary Information for PTI, Sheikh Wasim Akram also called out the continued failure of authorities at PIMS to conduct the coronary CT coronary angiogram procedure in Khan, despite the cardiologist complaining about potential risks of cardiac complications. He demanded that the test be immediately conducted at Shifa International Hospital where the facility existed. “This cannot be dismissed as an isolated administrative lapse; it reflects a deeply troubling pattern,” Akram said.
He called for prompt disclosure of Khan’s complete medical records, reports and diagnostic results to his family, personal doctors and legal team.
According to officials, a government medical board had examined Khan on August 10 following complaints of heart palpitations and severe headaches. It added that a cardiologist at PIMS had already recommended the CTA on August 1 due to fluctuating blood pressure, restlessness and potential risks of cardiac complication given Khan’s age and prolonged isolation.
Defying the Supreme Court orders, Khan was taken to PIMS last week for an eye procedure and other diagnostic examinations. Doctors reportedly recommended a CT scan of the heart be conducted. However, the hospital officials said the required facility was unavailable. He was subsequently sent back to Adiala Jail without undergoing the test.
Khan was arrested three years ago in a corruption case and has remained in custody since then. He has been lodged in Adiala jail, a detention facility on the outskirts of Rawalpindi.
