Several parts of Delhi witnessed rains on sunday morning. The downpour commenced at 8:30 pm on Saturday continued till Sunday morning making the weather pleasant in the national capital.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rain was recorded in isolated areas across the national capital, while the Safdarjung area reported mist along with a temperature of 27°C as of 8 am.
Over the past 24 hours Delhi recorded very light to light rain at many places, with moderate rainfall at isolated places accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Minimum temperatures across the capital remained in the range of 23-26°C, while maximum temperatures settled between 34-35°C.
Heavy rainfall was also reported over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam and Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.
The met department has predicted isolated heavy rainfall for Uttarakhand from August 22 to 28.A warning of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms has been issued for most districts in Uttarakhand and Bihar, which could lead to waterlogging and flood-like situations in low-lying areas.
Fairly widespread rainfall is expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim between August 22-28, over Jharkhand from August 23-28, and over Bihar between August 24-26.
An orange alert has been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland.
The Meteorological Department and disaster management authorities have instructed people living along rivers and streams in hilly areas to move to safer locations. They have also urged the general public to avoid travelling to the hills unless absolutely necessary.
