Emraan Hashmi’s endearing story Awarapan 2 has once again made headlines with its stupendous opening, making it the first film in Bollywood to achieve Rs 160 crore mark globally after its first week. The follow-up to the 2007 release is proving to be a huge hit at the cinemas and it has started to astound theatre trade analysts and send Emraan’s fans flying with delight.
Awarapan 2 grossed Rs 6 crore on its seventh day in India and Rs 113.50 crore net in the country in all, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. In total, it has grossed world wide Rs 161.67 crore in seven days.
10,832 shows were achieved across India on Day 7 with an overall occupancy of 15.25% for the film. Strangely, since the movies released more than 1,800 screens; thus far the film counts more screenings than the opening day.
Awarapan 2 with 15.3% % occupancy rate had more than 1100 shows in Delhi-NCR and the Mumbai area had over 800 shows with 14.3% % occupancy rate.
The movie is turning out to be quite a success with Rs 22 crore on Day 1, performing well in theaters opening in over 9,000 locations. Saturday, collections reached Rs 33.75 crore which further ascended to Rs 26 crore on Sunday.
The initial weekdays went strong for the film, at least with the first week days, as it again grossed over ₹9 crore on Monday and Tuesday. But, collections fell to Rs 6.75 crore on Wednesday and further plunged to Rs 6 crore on Thursday.
Although selling slow on a Tuesday, Awarapan 2 has still been a great presence in the theatre and continues to draw crowds. The increasing show count also indicates that there is an enormous demand for Emraan Hashmi’s film.
After the first week the film will ride the momentum from the opening weekend into the second and further add greatly to the already stellar worldwide collection.
