Bhopal: A bizarre claim circulating through an Instagram reel has allegedly become the motive behind the murder of a 17-year-old boy in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Despite finding no medical or factual basis for the claim, police state that the accused had thought that the testicles of a teenager can be sold for Rs 1.20 crore or so.
By investigators’ account the alleged conspiracy was directed by 20-year-old Zoheb Khan, who was a second-year BBA student who allegedly got into the act and claimed to be a doctor wearing a white apron. Police say Khan posted an Instagram video to which he instructed his associates to keep an eye on that convinced them the boy, around age 15-16, could have a lot of money made from his private body parts.
According to the report, the victim was allegedly lured to an isolated area and promised Rs 100 after which he was killed as he was engaged in selling pens and keychains. Police have picked up Khan and another 18-year-old boy named Aamir Qureshi, and detained three children in the case.
Four accused were involved in the commission of the killing, Khan facilitated them and was also part of the conspiracy, DCP Zone-3 Ayush Gupta said. Police have also retrieved the knife that was said to be used in the incident.
The doctor was consulted during the probe but there was no evidence of alleged Rs 1.20 crore valuation. No evidence of any organized network of organ trafficking has been found to-date related to the claim.
The police are now working to determine the origin of the Instagram reel and how an online myth ended up in the death of a man.
