The E-Office portal on Thursday suddenly crashed forcing government work at the administrative headquarters, Vallabh Bhavan in Madhya Pradesh to go offline. It impacted some critical online functions of the state secretariat such as e-tendering, disposal and movement of online files, treasury and financial transactions.
After the portal went offline, officials allegedly told the Chief Secretary of the disruption.
The E-Office system is adopted throughout government agencies, for digital processing of files and for the conducting of a number of administrative tasks. The fact that they had to stop a few routine government operations due to the unavailability of the portal, has made it difficult for officials to forward or process online files.
Initial reports indicate that it was a problem with a NIC server. It was not apparent at first what problem with the server was causing it. The outage also impacted e-tendering in action and online treasury transactions which may be causing financial and administrative processes to be delayed because they rely on the digital system.
Technical teams have reportedly been working on identifying the problem and fixing it with servers and restoring E-Office portal. The incident at the government’s Vallabh Bhavan had called attention to the reliance of day-to-day operations of the government on the portals and the officials were waiting for the restoration to resume their work.
