On Friday, U.S. Vice President JD Vance held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk about enhancing the partnership between India and the United States in the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in the backdrop of rising tensions in West Asia. In the discourse PM Modi also congratulated Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance for the birth of their son and wished good luck to the family.
He had received a phone call from his one time US vice president JD Vance. Modi shared the discussions on how to further strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the USA in various important areas on social media.
The American side has not yet said any specifics on the talks. Moreover, it remains unknown if the proposed India-US trade agreement was also discussed in the call.
The discussion follows the signing of a mutual defence agreement between Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan a few days ago that was touted as a new defence coalition in West Asia by the trio of countries.
A series of grey areas have marred the ties between the two nations in the recent months such as stance on India’s trade policy, country-specific tariffs and Washington’s allegations regarding its role in bringing an end to the India-Pakistan military conflict in May 2025. The government of New Delhi has always been adamant that the ceasefire was precipitated by direct dialogue between India and Pakistan.
Tensions between the two countries have also been caused by implementing higher fees for H-1B visas and altering US immigration policies.
Over the past few years, both sides have taken steps to thaw out the relationship between the two countries. In June, when PM Modi met his American counterpart, Donald Trump, in France, the two leaders asked officials to work towards an early and balanced trade agreement in a mutually beneficial manner.
The Indians and US continue to work to boost ties in an array of areas, including trade, strategic cooperation, and more.
