Raipur Police has stepped up its fight against the drug trade with Teli Bandha Police and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) jointly raiding and busting a huge quantity of cannabis worth over Rs 19.10 lakh. As many as two individuals are arrested in the case.
After a specific tip-off, the operation was conducted in the limits of police station at Teli Bandha on its road. They swiftly caught an Ashok Leyland truck on the service road adjacent to Agrasen Dham, leading to the police and ANTF team. Officers found 191 kg of ganja hidden in the truck during a comprehensive search.
The seized contraband is worth around Rs 19.10 lakh in the black market, police sources said. The vehicle that was used to carry the narcotics shipment has also been seized in the investigation.
Mohammad Lal and Mohammad Rustam from West Bengal are the two arrested individuals. Under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a case has been filed against them.
Further investigation is underway to trace the origin and the recipients of the consignment, police officials said. Officers are also looking into the possibility that the suspects are involved in some other international drug network.
The latest seizure continues a drive to stop the smuggling of narcotics and illegal drugs at Raipur Commissionerate. Authorities reiterated their resolve to take stringent action against those indulging in the supply and distribution of banned drugs and appealed to the people to speak against any activity in the capacity of drug traffickers.
