Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra on Thursday called for strengthening India’s education system, saying it should inspire confidence, reward merit and nurture curiosity, as protests over the alleged NEET paper leak continue in the national capital.
In a post on X, Bindra said education is an issue that goes beyond politics and affects the future of the country.
Stating that he does not consider himself a political person, Bindra said some issues concern every citizen regardless of political beliefs. He said he never considered himself a political person but believe that some issues belong to all of us, regardless of where we stand. Education is one of them,” he wrote. He also added that a nation’s strength is reflected not only in its economy or achievements but also in the opportunities it creates for young people.
“An education system that inspires confidence, rewards merit and nurtures curiosity is one of a nation’s greatest strengths. I hope we can all unite and work together to continually strengthen our education system, so that it remains a source of opportunity, innovation and hope for generations to come,” he said.
Bindra’s comments come as student protests continue at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the alleged NEET paper leak and other examination-related issues.
The protesters, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), have been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and reforms to the examination system.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said those responsible for paper leaks would face strict punishment and announced the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials. “Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth… Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
The CJP has maintained that its primary demand remains the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while the protests continue in the national capital.
