As students protest against alleged educational malfeasance in the NEET exam, the actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has flooded the social media with his solidarity with the ongoing ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP).
Taking to Instagram Stories, Diljit Dosanjh described the police action against protesting students as “very wrong” and urged the authorities to engage with their demands instead of suppressing their voices.
“What happened today was a very wrong thing; students should not have been treated like that; I call upon the authority to listen to the voice of the people, which is the voice of God,” he wrote.
The singer also indicated that he anticipated being “criticised for his views” as he had received during the protest of the farmers.
“Already, I have heard the word anti-national from many people, I foresee that this will happen to me again after the Farmers Protests,” he further added, adding in the process that he had encountered numerous troubles after the farmer protest, both legal and backlash.
The CJP protest came ahead of the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, and the protest leaders had asked the Union Minister of School Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, to resign from his post because of a paper leak in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) to be held on 3 June.
The delegation of the CJP also met Union Health Minister JP Nadda and presented him a memorandum demanding the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Pradhan and award of Rs 1 crore to families of NEET aspirants who allegedly committed suicide.
Famous Bollywood celebrities also backed the student protest movement, such as Riteish Deshmukh, Huma Qureshi, Nandita Das, Bhumi Pednekar, Shabana Azmi and Sutapa Sikdar.
