A 24-year-old man drowned in the Shipra River, at Bhookhi Mata Ghat, in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday and died. The deceased has been identified as Angat Silodiya.
The accident happened when the young man went into the deep water of the river and he may not have come back, sending people people present at the ghat in panic, officials said. It was immediately informed to the local authorities which were on the scene within a matter of few minutes were swarmed with members of the Maa Shipra Swimmers’ Team and the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF).
An intensive search operation was begun by the experienced rescue workers like Teja Kahar, Deepak Kahar, Rakesh Gond and other rescue workers of SDERF. Every effort was made in the deep water for almost an hour, but the rescue team managed to retrieve Angat Silodiya’s body from the river.
Later, the body was delivered to local police who referred it to post-mortem’s examination to establish the exact cause of the death. Police are investigating the incident, with more details expected.
Many people there expressed their grief with a proper statement, and the tragic incident shocked visitors from the outside and of course the natives of Bhookhi Mata Ghat as well.
The police have again issued a caution to river devotees and visitors to keep a watch out for danger while entering the river or keeping the rivers, particularly in populated ghats areas, where several deaths have occurred in recent years while entering ghat area. Rescue teams also advised against people entering unsafe parts of the river and said to adhere to the safety rules.
