A private school in Hyderabad has been facing scrutiny after the parents of a six-year-old Hindu student alleged that their son was assigned Kalma as part of his homework. The family has been demanding thorough inquiry into the matter and police action.
According to the family, the Class II student returned home with a homework diary instructing him to read the “1st and 2nd Kalma” and “Fateh”.
The child’s parents said they approached the school management after noticing the homework assignment, arguing that no student should be compelled to participate in religious instruction that conflicts with their faith.
The student’s aunt, who shared details of the incident in a video, alleged that similar homework entries had been made earlier before being struck out. She claimed the school initially described the assignment as mandatory for all students but later stated that it had been written by mistake.
The family has alleged that the incident caused mental distress to the child and has sought action from the state’s Education Department.
The issue has taken a political turn, with BJP leaders visiting the student’s family and demanding a detailed investigation into the school.
The party alleged that religious teachings were being introduced in the institution and called for strict action if the allegations are found to be true.
Police said the matter is under inquiry and urged people not to draw conclusions before the investigation is completed.
According to police, the concerned classroom has 25 students, of whom only one is a Hindu.
During the preliminary inquiry, the teacher reportedly told police that the homework entry was inadvertently written in the Hindu student’s diary.
Police said the parents have submitted a formal complaint and that legal opinion will be sought before deciding on further action.
