On Tuesday night, police in Hyderabad’s affluent Madhapur area, in the wake of a shootout between police and the murderers of a 30-year-old chef, had reportedly suspected that it was an inter-caste affair and possibly an honour crime when the man was allegedly hacked to death.
The victim was Chinnapalli Bhaskar, who was a chef at a hotel in Ayyappa Society of Warangal district in Telangana and was resident of Chinnapalli Bhaskar’s village, Upparapalli. Police says Bhaskar was in a relationship with a woman from his village before. But her family allegedly not being in favour of the relationship because of casteism she got married to another man around three years ago.
According to investigators, Bhaskar went after the girl after they were married, resulting in marital disagreements that ultimately led to divorce. Police suspect the woman’s father had accused the boy of the breakdown of his marriage and apparently threatened him earlier.
During the initial investigation, five men, who had gone to the hostel where Bhaskar was staying, summoned him outside under the guise of talking to him. Allegedly he was attacked with knives and sticks, causing several injuries which were all fatal.
Bhaskar’s elder brother had filed a complaint against which the police registered a murder case and started investigating him. The crime scene was visited by forensic team and victim body was taken to Osmia General Hospital for post mortem.
Chef Bhaskar’s family went on a protest outside Madhapur Police Station demanding to mark the arrest of persons concerned. The woman is being questioned by police in the investigation and the accused is being traced for him to be arrested.
