Bilaspur: In Chhattisgarh, 4 persons, including 2 women were arrested and around 55 kg of ganja was confiscated by the Government Railway Police in Bilaspur Railway Station as part of a major crackdown against drug trafficking.
Police officials said the accused had to cross the railway station in Odisha for tracking at the Rewa railway station in Madhya Pradesh where the double agent caught them with the contraband. GRP officers searched the suspects and found 32 packets of ganja on their possession which they were responding to.
The confiscated drugs are valued at around Rs 27.57 lakh in terms of the illegal market.
According to police, the arrested persons are people from Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. Police believe the shipment was being illegally trafficked across state lines as part of an interstate drug task force. Authorities are now trying to find out where the shipment came from and who else has been involved in its distribution.
A case has been filed with GRP Police Station, Bilaspur under section 20(b) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The accused have been arrested; ongoing interrogation of them continues.
Police officials said they were working to identify the person or persons possibly intended to receive the seized ganja and to find out more about the entire operation.
The successful crackdown is another major effort by the GRP to protect the country from drug trafficking through railways and once again showed their commitment towards increasing surveillance and strict action on drug traffickers who work throughout the state borders.
