Madhya Pradesh Congress president has expressed confidence in party’s victory in the upcoming Datia Assembly Bypoll. Addressing the reporters, Jitu Patwari on Sunday said-, “Ghanshyam Singh has been given the ticket with the consensus of all senior leaders and workers. Congress will win the election there 100%.”

Ghanshyam Singh was announced as its candidate to compete for the Datia Assembly bypoll on July 11. He is pitted against BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari in the high-stakes contest. Singh following his nomination, accused the BJP of promoting corruption and weakening the social fabric in the constituency.

According to local media reports, Singh is his electoral manifesto prioritized elimination of corruption and ensure common people benefited from the developments. “The most important thing is to end corruption so that the public can fully benefit from the development work that has been done,” Singh said.

“There is a lot of difference. He (Narottam) was a very big challenge. This one is nothing. He will get as many votes as possible based on the party’s strength, the government’s strength and the administration’s strength,” Singh alleged speaking on his views of Narottam Mishra being denied a ticket.

The Datia seat fell vacant following the disqualification of Rajendra Bharti on April 2, 2026. The notification stated that the disqualification was under the provisions of Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and Article 191(1)(e) of the Constitution of India.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against 27 known leaders and 200 unidentified workers for staging an 11-hour long protest on Saturday as BJP denied a ticket to Minister Narottam Mishra for the Datia Assembly bypoll. The protest began on Friday evening after the party announced Ashutosh Tiwari as its candidate instead of Mishra.

Around 5,000 supporters gathered and blocked National Highway-44 for more than 11 hours, demanding a reconsideration of the ticket decision.
