Nashik court on Monday granted bail to Nida Khan, one of the accused in an alleged religious conversion and sexual harassment case involving a business process outsourcing (BPO) unit connected with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). It comes after she was arrested in May for the crime, almost two months ago.
Co-accused Tausif Attar also got bail from Additional Sessions Judge K.G. Joshi of Nashik Road Court. But the bail application of another accused Danish Shaikh was rejected by the Court, saying the charges against him were grave in nature.
In rejecting Shaikh’s bail appeal, the court pointed out that there was an “obvious” risk of tampering with the evidence and influencing witnesses or trying to avoid the legal procedure in case Shaikh was to be set free.
Two telecallers from TCS linked BPO Nida Khan was arrested allegedly while on the run for weeks. She is being held under judicial custody since her arrest.
Khan appeared before the court in the advocate’s representation, led by Rahul Kasliwal, arguing that she is pregnant and thus in need of bail. She had made inquiries on several occasions previously, alleging health issues and problems in staying in prison as she was expecting her baby.
In an earlier hearing, prison authorities had been reprimanded by the court to provide Khan with proper medical care and required health care during his detention.
Religious conversion and workplace misbehavior are allegations raised in the case and are terms that seem to have graced the print press. Authorities are still trying to investigate the case and the other accused are still being prosecuted as police attempt to build a case.
